Shopping
Haas HausA shopping holiday in Vienna
A shopping tour of Vienna is exactly the right change after a full cultural and sightseeing programme. Whether a luxury item or a special small present, you will certainly find it in Vienna.
The Viennese number one shopping mile is the Mariahilfer Straße. One thing that everybody knows even beyond the city boundaries: everything a shopper's heart desires is here. Businesses, shops and shopping centres extend from the West Station up to the Altstadt (old town). When would you otherwise have time to go shopping without appointment pressure and completely stress free if not during your holiday? Do not begrudge your family anything, fulfil your children's long-cherished wishes and give presents to your loved ones. Permit yourself something too, of course. With this in mind, you should head towards Kärntnerstraße, for example, or Wiener Graben or the Kohlmarkt and its side streets. You will find the great names of the fashion world in these luxury streets: Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Akris, Escada, Cartier and many other luxury brands are represented in Vienna with flagship stores of their own.
You would prefer to look for something a little more unusual and with a little more flair? Then rummage around a weekend flea market such as the Naschmarkt, where everything is on offer from curiosities right up to rarities. It is even more colourful and exotic at the well-known markets. It is not without reason that they are also described as a "melting pot of cultures". Middle Eastern influences, southern temperament, Viennese sarcasm and East European charm combine to create a unique mix that you just have to experience. The range of goods for sale is as mixed as the different cultures, too. In addition, each changing season means that the markets develop an atmosphere quite their own which is inviting in itself. So go on a shopping tour in Vienna during your holiday - it will certainly be worthwhile!
