The Mozart family lived in house number 9 in the Getreidegasse, where the musical genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born. The Mozart family had a flat on the third floor of the house. The Mozarts' flat was modest, comprising a kitchen, a small closet, a living room, bedroom (birth place of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart) and a study. This is where all seven children in the Mozart family were born, although only two of them survived infancy: in 1751 Maria Anna Walburga, better known by the nickname "Nannerl" and on 27 January 1756 "Johannes Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus", the world famous composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
W.A. Mozart lived with his family in this house at No. 9 Getreidegasse until his seventeenth year. Afterwards the Mozart family moved into the Tanzmeisterhaus, at no. 8 on today's Market Square in Salzburg - also known as Mozart's residence.
Today Mozart's place of birth houses a museum in which striking exhibition pieces are displayed. During your visit you can marvel at the childhood violin of the world famous musical genius. You will also find numerous portraits and letters from the Mozart family in this museum. Every year this memorial to the most probably greatest composer of all time is visited by thousands of visitors.
