Salzburg Festival Hall - Cultural delight and a striking venue

The venues for the Salzburg Festival can be visited outside of operas and concerts - visit the festival concert halls on one of the guided tours offered all year round in Mozart's city of Salzburg.

The festival halls are some of the most important cultural venues in Salzburg. The venues for the Salzburg festivals are situated in the heart of the old town. Each year at Easter, Whitsun and in summer, top class concerts and operas are performed in the Großen Festspielhaus (Main Festival Hall), the Haus für Mozart (House for Mozart) and the Felsenreitschule (the former summer riding school). Visit the world famous Salzburg festivals and let yourself be enthralled by the unique atmosphere of the festival halls. World famous artists such as Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villazon have already enraptured audiences in the Salzburg Festival Hall. Extraordinary acoustics and a noble ambiance turn every artistic performance into a highlight.
The largest stage at the Salzburg festivals has a width of 100 metres, the auditorium provides room for 2,179 people. The floor of the foyer was made from the famous "Adnet marble", the floor of the interval hall of green serpentine with equine mosaics by Kurt Fischer. The festival hall was opened in 1960 with a performance of Der Rosenkavalier (The Rose Cavalier) conducted by Herbert von Karajan. The former "Small Festival Hall" was reopened in the year of Mozart 2007 following modifications and now bears the name "House for Mozart". Further stages for the Salzburg festivals are provided by the Felsenreitschule, part of it carved from the rock of the Mönchsberg.

Even if you visit Salzburg before or after the festival period, you should not miss an opportunity to visit the festival concert halls. Interesting guided tours are offered that allow you to take a look behind the scenes at the world famous festival.
